Weekly Photo Challenge – Favourites

2017 Favorites

‘To celebrate the end of the year, share the most meaningful photo you’ve taken in 2017.’

This week’s theme is tricky – I’ve had my digital SLR camera for just over a year now and I’ve taken hundreds of photos of which a good proportion of them have ended up deleted. However, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with some of them. Last night when I started typing this post I had in mind to share the photos I’m most proud of and the photos of the wonderful and memorable moments in our family’s big year, but on reflection and a night’s sleep, I have decided to concentrated on the requirement, that is theย most meaningful photo.

Back in March my wonderful Dad was awarded an MBEย for services to a charity, and I flew to the UK in order to be with him (and Mum) when he received his medal from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace – it was a very special occasion.

When I stopped to reflect on the meaning of this and to look through the accompanying photos, I realised the enormity of the event and what it meant to our family. You see, Dad has dedicated over 30 years of his life to making a difference; making a difference to decision making, to fund-raising, to event organisation, to family support, and to research. After losing his mother to leukaemia when he was just 13 years old and then his son in 1985, Dad was driven to do something about it. You can read more on this here.

These are my meaningful photos and as the locals would say – good on ya Richie!
